Philosophy

It's a story that has existed throughout history.  Artists have been commissioned to create great works of art for public places. Cities all over the world, both ancient and modern, have defined their cultural identity through the arts. The significance of a city is created by the impact and meaning of its art and architecture.

How Creating a Moment for Pause Becomes the Design of an Experience

If there was ever a place for a moment of pause, an experience to remind us of the higher qualities and ideals that inspire us–it's in an airport.

Always a potentially impersonal environment, the airport is a public space where the emotions of travelers often run high. It's where unrelenting schedules cause stress in even the most halcyon personalities.  It's also the place where public art faces the most rigid, technically demanding and exacting compliance standards in the world. There are few environments where the safety of others, the threat of litigation, and the pressure to provide an on-time product are more prominent.

Public art has shown its unique power: It orients us to the culture of a different city. It strives to further the qualities of a building design while humanizing spaces for every type of visitor. Public art strives to unify all the parts of a building, creating meeting places that are landmarks. And in the process, it shows us that a human hand is often the core creator of the experiences that inspire us most.

The goal is to create an auspicious outcome.  Fanning Partnerships believes in helping clients bridge the distance between what's known and unknown, so the incorporation of art in our lives is never a mystery.
