Bio

Colleen Fanning has over 12 years of experience working in the field of public art.  After 11 years with the City and County of Denver, and with 6 of those 11 years providing strategic public art solutions for the Denver International Airport, Colleen Fanning developed a world class art program focusing on the enhancement of public spaces.  She has an in depth knowledge of media relations, master planning, economic development, budgeting, curating, donations policies, copyright issues, contract negotiations, and has done extensive research with the Airport Legal department on topics such as Visual Artists Rights Act (VARA).  Her strength in building networks for collaboration results in partnerships with many community leaders and organizations.  She is frequently invited to do public speaking at universities and conferences around the country on topics as varied as new public art trends to minimizing controversies.  Her passion is to act as liaison and facilitate bridging any gaps in the process in order to acheive excellent communications and project management. 

Fanning recently left city government and started a small business, Fanning Partnership, a consultancy specializing in aviation environments and hospitals.  The power of utilizing the arts, architecture and landscape to encourage a moment of pause and promote healing, is at the core of her philosophy.  Recently aligned with Peggy Lawless of the Colorado Art Ranch who has done extensive research on the benefits of gardens on physical and mental health, Peggy brings undisputable support for the healing benefits of meditative spaces and gardens.  Fanning has focused her research to develop a metrics to quantify the economics of how and why an organization can positively affect their interior and exterior landscapes by creating green space and incorporating the arts.  

Fanning is a member of the American Association of Airport Executives and the Americans for the Arts Public Art Network. She also holds an Allied member card with the American Institute for Architects (AIA) and is an Affiliate member of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA).
